About the Outer Mission Neighborhood in San Francisco, California
Outer Mission is a modest residential neighborhood on the city’s south side, adjacent to San Francisco International Airport and bounded by Interstate 280 to the west, Geneva Avenue to the north, and Mission Street and the Daly City border to the south. Its neighboring communities are Ingleside to the west, Mission Terrace to the north, Excelsior to the south, and Visitacion Valley to the east.
Outer Mission was originally part of Rancho Buri Buri, a Mexican land grant given in 1827 to Jose Dolores Pacheco. The area remained rural until after World War II, when it was developed into a residential neighborhood. Today, Outer Mission is a diverse community with a strong sense of community. It is home to a variety of businesses, including restaurants, cafes, and shops.
