Bernal Heights is a residential area in San Francisco’s southeast corner. A microwave transmission tower may be found atop the iconic Bernal Heights hill, which overlooks the city’s skyline. From the Bernal Heights area, you can see the nearby Sutro Tower.
The Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center was founded in 1979 as a result of a long history of neighborhood organizing. Friends of Alemany Farm improves local food security by educating neighbors on how to cultivate their own food. We work to improve our understanding of ecology and the significance of habitats, as well as to plant the seeds of economic and environmental justice. We give out all of the food we grow for free to our neighbors, volunteers, The Free Farm Stand, and other organizations.
The horticulture, volunteer, and educational programs at Alemany Farm, a 3.5-acre organic farm located in southeast San Francisco, are managed by the Friends of Alemany Farm. The Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, the indigenous residents of the San Francisco Peninsula and the original stewards of this land, have an unceded ancestral territory on the property.

The Alemany Certified Farmers’ Market is lovingly known as “the people’s market” by many San Franciscans. This down-home moniker refers to Alemany’s low prices and lively community ambiance, but it also refers to the restaurant’s lengthy history in the city and its steadfast public support.
On August 12, 1943, the Alemany Farmers’ Market opened in San Francisco. It was California’s first farmers’ market. As a wartime strategy to give an outlet for surplus and distressed products from nearby counties, the Victory Garden Council and regional farmers organized a farmers’ market at Duboce Avenue and Market Street.

Holy Innocents is a small church in the neighborhood. They care about the same things you do: children, seniors, and the housebound; street safety and crime; affordable housing and healthcare; justice for all; and the homeless and psychologically challenged. They also provide meeting space for NERT training, community groups, Music Together, and a number of 12 step programs. They honor the Episcopal Church’s and Anglican tradition’s ceremonies. Their worship revolves around the Eucharist (food and wine). They urge everyone to join them at the altar for the Eucharist or to remain seated if they want. In addition to their regular worship sessions, they also have service opportunities to express your faith in community service.
